SOWING FUTURES

Project Type: Public Architectural Installation, Parametric Sculpture, Light & Atmospheric Art

Materials: CNC-Routed Aluminum Composite Panels (ACP), LED Floodlights, Fog Machines, Embedded Microcontrollers

Keywords: Cross-Cultural Semiotics, Universal Origins, Generative Patterns, Atmospheric Geometry

Sowing Futures is a public architectural installation that ivites a meditation upon the source of life, intention and meaning.

Client: Romanian Creative Week 2021
Project Date: 09.2021
Size: 3500x1700x1700 mm

The project was comissioned by Romanian Creative Week as a result of the preliminary proposal winning its Open Call Competition.

The design process makes use of a simulated “flock” of boids circling a virtual “food source”.
The resulting trails are discretised as to accomodate a limited number of angles in order to facilitate fabrication. The instructions for bending the aluminium pipes are generated algorithmically and each unique piece is checked for deviations using custom CNC routed jigs.
Fabricated using composite aluminium panels, LED floodlights, smoke machines and microcontrollers.

The artwork explores the semiotc meaning of “the seed” as an object that is cross-cultural and transcends the development of human societies.
